In these pages we present descriptions of popular dive sites in Puerto Rico. Because we have not visited all these sites, we ask our visitors to submit information on those sites we have not described. When you visit these sites around Puerto Rico please remember to respect and protect their beauty for other divers and future generations.
Arrecife TourmalineA reef located some 30 minutes from the Mayaguez area. I've been there once and met sea turtles and nurse sharks. Cavernas de RinconCaverns in the Rincon area (?). I have yet to visit this site. Crash BoatOne of our favorite dive sites for its simplicity and beauty. The site is some 100 yards from shore in 25' of water. CulebraSmall island-town on the East coast. We went diving there in ~1994 and saw five dolphins in ~60' of water. We've also gone snorkeling in the Canal de Luis Peņa area (~30' water). If you know of local dive shops, let me know! DesecheoSmall island about an hour from Mayaguez. Great diving at multiple depths. DoradoShore dive located in a public beach. The one time we went there we had to abort the dive due to weather conditions. Isla de MonaIncredible diving in PR, at least that's what they tell me. I have yet to dive here, everytime I try the trip is cancelled! La Pared de la PargueraBeautiful wall diving. Two Green Morays were the highlight of the trip. "Los Machos"I don't even know what this is supposed to be. Contact The Dive Shop (I saw it mentioned on their site). PalominoI've gone diving on the north face of this small island on the East coast (1994). The dive sloped from 30' to 60'. Nice diving. Pared "La Nariz"Contact The Dive Shop (I saw it mentioned on their site). Rincon XVII Century WreckContact The Dive Shop (I saw it mentioned on their site). Seven SeasThis is a public beach located in one of Fajardo's bays. This is where I learned to dive! There is a small reef somewhat in the middle of the bay. It was really nice the last time I was there (1993, two hurricanes ago) ShacksAnother one of my favorite shore dive spots. This is not an easy dive, I recommend you visit with an experienced diver. This is a system of almost complete coverage caverns formed by coral in the Shacks beach. Unfortunately, the times I've been there, the suspended sand has made photography impossible. I've seen sea turtles and lobster here. XVII Century Wreck "Los Piņones"Contact The Dive Shop (I saw it mentioned on their site). ViequesBeautiful island-town on the East coast used for target practice by the US Navy. I've gone snorkeling in some beaches here, but have not gone diving. If you know of local dive shops, let me know! Comments on dive sites are by Carlos. |
